An English speaking endodontic practice in Paris

Many patients living in Paris — diplomats, expatriates, business travellers, university staff and their families — prefer to receive specialist dental care in English. Our practice offers this comfort throughout the entire patient journey: scheduling, consultation, clinical explanations, written quotes and post-operative instructions. You will not need a translator or a bilingual dentist to follow your treatment plan.

The practice is conveniently located near the La Muette and Ranelagh metro stations (Line 9), with easy access from central Paris, La Défense and the western suburbs.

What is endodontics?

Endodontics is the branch of dentistry dedicated to the inside of the tooth — pulp, root canals and surrounding tissues. When the pulp becomes inflamed or necrotic following deep decay, trauma or leakage under an old restoration, endodontic treatment is required to disinfect the tooth and prevent its loss.

An endodontist is a dentist who has limited their practice to this specialty. This concentration on a single discipline allows for higher precision and better outcomes in complex cases such as calcified canals, broken instruments, persistent infections or unusual anatomy.

When should you see an endodontist?

Your general dentist will refer you to an endodontist when a tooth presents a particularly complex situation: a previously treated tooth with renewed infection, a broken file inside a canal, a calcified or curved canal, an unexplained persistent pain or an unusual anatomy seen on radiographs. In all these scenarios, the experience and equipment of an exclusive endodontist significantly improve the chances of saving the tooth.

Treatments offered at the practice

Root canal treatment

Root canal treatment is indicated in cases of irreversible pulpitis, pulp necrosis or apical infection. The procedure removes infected tissue, disinfects the canal system and seals it hermetically. At our Paris practice, all treatments are performed under the operating microscope and with a rubber dam, following the most recent recommendations of the European Society of Endodontology.

Root canal retreatment

Retreatment is considered when a previous root canal has failed — persistent infection, incomplete obturation or new bacterial contamination. Existing filling material is carefully removed, the canal system is re-disinfected and a new, hermetic obturation is placed. This conservative approach often allows the tooth to be saved without extraction or implant placement.

Broken instrument retrieval

Broken nickel-titanium files inside a root canal are common reasons for referral. Using the operating microscope and ultrasonic tips, Dr Boublil retrieves the fragment in the majority of cases. When retrieval would weaken the tooth excessively, bypassing the fragment or performing endodontic surgery becomes the preferred option.

Endodontic surgery (apicoectomy)

When orthograde retreatment cannot resolve the infection, an apicoectomy may be indicated. The procedure consists of accessing the apex of the root through a small surgical flap, removing the infected portion and placing a retrograde filling. Performed under microscope and local anesthesia, this technique offers a conservative alternative to extraction.

About Dr Benjamin Boublil

Your first appointment: what to expect

The first session is dedicated to diagnosis. Dr Boublil reviews your radiographs, takes a detailed history and examines the relevant teeth. When needed, a cone beam (CBCT) is performed to visualize the canal anatomy in three dimensions. A written quote is then provided, in English, before any treatment begins. Each clinical step is explained so that you fully understand the proposed plan.

Booking an appointment

Whether your dentist has referred you or you are seeking specialist advice on your own, our team will assist you in English from the very first contact. Appointments can be booked by phone or through the online contact form. If possible, send us your recent radiographs and your referral letter ahead of your visit.

FAQ – English Speaking Endodontist Paris

Do I need a referral from a general dentist?

Not necessarily. You can book directly with our practice. However, a referral letter and recent radiographs from your dentist help us prepare your case and start treatment more efficiently.

Is the treatment painful?

No. All procedures are performed under local anesthesia. Most patients report relief from their initial discomfort by the end of the first session.

How long does a root canal appointment take?

Between 60 and 120 minutes depending on the tooth and the complexity of the case. Some treatments require two sessions to allow proper disinfection and healing.

Is the practice accessible by public transport?

Yes. The practice is located in Paris 16, near the La Muette and Ranelagh metro stations on Line 9. It is also accessible by RER C and several bus lines.

Will my dental insurance cover endodontic treatment?

French public health insurance covers part of the standard endodontic fees. Private and international insurance plans vary — a written quote is always provided so you can request a pre-authorization.

Can I receive treatment as a non-resident or visiting Paris?

Yes. We frequently care for international patients staying short-term in Paris. Diagnosis can usually be made on the day of consultation, and treatment scheduled within your travel window.
